Kibale forest National park lies in western Uganda, southeast of the Fort Portal town. Amongst the gently undulating lush green of cultivation. To the west the legendary mountains of the moon rout in snowcapped splendor, whilst the grasslands and lakes of queen Elizabeth National Park stretch away to the south.
Due to its location between the wet rain forests of the Congo basin and the drier east African forest, kibale supports unusually rich array of tropical plants and animals from both areas. One of the greatest concentrations of monkeys and apes in the world and the highest in Uganda is found here, including the endangered chimpanzee and the red colobus monkeys.
Uganda’s largest forest elephants find refuge here, along with buffalo, other large mammals and over one third of all Uganda’s bird species, include the gorgeous great blue turaco, ross-turaco, narina’s trogon, crowned eagle, African and Green breasted Pittas, Blue throated Roller, Grey headed Olive-back, scaly Francolin, Afep and White –naped Pigeons, Yellow-spotted, Hairly –breasted and Yellow –billed Barbets, Purple headed and Chestnut winged Starlings, Joyful Greenbul and many others.
By comparison to the open savannah environment of the south, the dense forest makes it a challenge to spot these shy creatures, but the resulting close encounters can be magical.
Visiting the Kibale area, also gives you an opportunity to take scenic walks, visit Karambi Royal tombs, the Royal Place of the Tooro Kingdom, primate tracking and night walks.
our unique Sky Tree House. It is located at a 10-15 minutes walk from the main lodge and overlooks the scenic elephant wallow.
