15 days Uganda Birding Safari 1

15 days – Birding – LMBURO, BWI, QENP, KIB, MFNP

Day 1 – Arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel, Depending on your arrival time there, there are several activities from which you will have opportunities of birding. These include – a sunset cruise on lake Victoria, a nature walk through the botanical gardens, visiting the UWEC or a boat trip to the Mabamba swamp – especially to find the rare shoebill stock, and mostly water birds. overnight stay at Airport Guesthouse BB

Day 2 – Depart for Lake Mburo park, in this park there about 350 bird species, and game is different from the other parks, especially with the Zebras that are found only in this park. Upon arrival in the park, you will check in at your lodge, have lunch and then start with an afternoon birding drive, rare shoebill stork, papyrus yellow warbler, African finfoot, saddle billed stork with chances of viewing the game while they lick on salts as the sun is setting. Day 3 – Early morning nature walk, return for breakfast and then set off to Bwindi national park, stop for lunch and later continue on to the park, while birding en route. Here you will arrive late afternoon, relax for the rest of the evening. Overnight at Mahogany springs Lodge FB

Day 4 – OPTIONAL gorilla trek, otherwise you will set of into the forest for the day’s birding. A picnic lunch en route, returning later this afternoon.   The park is a habitat to over 300 bird species, some of the common include – African green pigeon, African harrier hawk, Cinnamon-chested bee-eater, Crowned hornbill, Giant kingfisher.  Overnight stay as above

Day 5 – Today you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth park, there over 600 bird species in the park, both migratory and resident, savannah, water and woodland birds. You will drive through the Ishasha the southern sector of the park, birding en route, with chances of spotting the tree climbing lions that are specific to this part of the park.  Stop over for lunch en route and continue with birding as you drive through to the lodge, overnight at Katara lodge FB

Day 6 – Day’s birding today, the park is mainly savannah lands, and the bird species are about 500 and more.  Game viewing as you drive through and later a boat cruise on the kazinga channel famous for its enormous birdlife, Overnight as above

Day 7 – Another day for birding, overnight as above

Day 8 – Today you will transfer to Kibale national park, birding as you drive along, beautiful sceneries all through. Kibale forest is one of the dense forests in the country, a habitat to primate species, some only found here, like the red tailed monkey, L’Hoest monkey, blue monkey  and as well as chimpanzee an endangered primate but now in conservation. The bird species are about 370, and the special species are cassin spine tail, Nahans francolin, white-napped Pigeon, Yellow-billed barbet, white-tailed ant thrush, amongst the many. Day 9 – OPTIONAL chimpanzee trek, otherwise you will set off for bigodi wetlands sanctuary, in this part alone, there about 138 bird species, and one of the most sought after is the Grand blue turaco; the Great blue turaco also found here. The birding will start and then continue on to the surrounding area, after lunch you will complete the afternoon in the forest. Overnight as above

Day 10 – An early transfer to Murchison Falls park, it’s a long day’s drive birding en route, stop for a picnic lunch and then continue to the park, and here you will arrive later this afternoon. Overnight stay at Fort Murchison FB

Day 11 – Birding for the day, a game drive and the boat cruise along the Nile to view the falls from the bottom. The park has got about 450 bird species, some of the common ones , include – Black-headed lapwing, Grey Crowned Crane, Senegal tick-nee. The shoebill and the Abyssinian ground hornbill can be also sighted occasionally. And the walk to the top of the falls allows magnificent view of the falls and more bird species as you walk along. Overnight as above

Day 12 – Another day in the park, birding at Budongo Forest, another of the few thick forests in the country, here you will site primate, like baboons, verve monkeys and more.  A quick lunch will be served and complete the afternoon birding. Overnight at Budongo Forest camp

Day 13 – Transfer to Jinja – tourist city. Here you will visit the source of the Nile – the longest river in Africa, as well relax a bit, with other activities like bungee jumping, speed boating, quad biking and more – payable for directly. Overnight stay at Black Lantern BB

Day 14 – After breakfast you will go through Mabira Forest – another old forest with lots of bird species. Birds to look for – African Pied Hornbill, African and Red bellied Paradise flycatcher, Sooty flycatcher, Toro Olive Greenbul, Green tailed Bristle bill and more. Spend most of the morning and apart of the afternoon birding in this forest, after which you will return to Entebbe – Overnight stay at Airport Guesthouse BB

Day 15 – Departure – you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight
